The reason people hate religion so much is not that they disagree with it but that they dont like having someone controlling their life.If your argueing against faith then know that it takes as much faith to believe in science as it does in religion.
I'll admit. It may take as much faith to completely deny the existance of a god.
However, science doesn't take faith. Science is proven. Science also does not equate to atheism. My mother is a devout Christian with a degree in science. So stop this. Science and religion are not mutually exclusive.
Yup, they aren't but it makes me wonder why not.
>Science is proven.
NO. Science is NOT proven. It can never be, that's the fundamental principle of science and what sets it apart from belief.
Edit: It is astonishing how little those presumably scientific-minded downvoters know about science.
There's a lot more evidence behind it than religion, though.
What people need to understand is that this debate isn't about science vs religion. Science and religion are two completely different concepts that are inherently completely detached from one another. See, for instance, the position of the catholic church, which hasn't ever opposed scientific findings in recent history from a theological viewpoint. And how could and why would they? Even if man was able to form a "theory of everything", there would still be a place for a creator, because according to our current knowledge, we won't ever be able to make a definite statement about what came before the big bang and Thomas Aquinus' proof of god with the unmoved mover (?) could still be true. As a being of infinite power, God could even have created the universe a second ago, giving all of us our memories and setting all physical laws, and there would never be a way to argue against it.
I 100% agree with you, and FYI, I am Catholic.
Science has laws and principles, the most straightforward of which CAN be proven right before your eyes. Some of the more complex ones have math that adds up if you know how to crazy-math.
No. The theory of science since Popper has said that in order for something to be qualified as a scientific concept, it must be falsifiable, i. e. there must be a way to prove it wrong. If something is proven, there is no way to falsify it, i. e. it is not scientific. You can prove things that are completely isolated from reality as inwardly coherent, such as math, but you can't ever even prove that what you're seeing is actually there, much less that atoms exist or that species evolved. Not even empiricism itself is a concept that has been proved as valid. All science does is create models that help us to perceive our environment in a more accurate way, but no scientist will ever say that what they describe is actual reality.
I don't know where you got your definition of science from, but you are wrong. Science CAN be and IS proven.
It may be common sense, but it's the opposite of true.
"In falsificationism, an unfalsifiable and thus unscientific theory is not necessarily intrinsically false or inappropriate, since metaphysical theories might be true or contain truth, but one cannot know for sure. Simply, to be scientific, a theory must entail at least one observation, which may or may not be the case."
That theory is pretty much accepted as a standard in the scientific world, at least according to what I've been told by my professors.
To those who disagree to the above poster, think less of her/his agenda and more of what she/he is essentially saying. It is wiser to always carry a bit of doubt with you in times where the factuality, existence, or truth of something is in question. When you deny the possibility of something being proven wrong (despite whatever terminology the scientific community has attached to it) you sacrifice the persuit of what really is true.
Exactly and thank you.
Really cause atheist really love to use science to Try to prove religion wrong. I have nothing against science in general, i just hate it when atheists believe that even theorys in science are just facts
You're a dumbass. Science has nothing to do with religion or atheism. The best arguments against religion are philosophical. Its all just common sense. I spent a lot of time thinking about it and now I realize I only believed in god because I was told to, and because I wanted to believe. Not because there was ever even a partially good reason t believe. Its all just bullshit. Its not even convincing bullshit. They just make you feel obligated to believe. Or to at least pretend you do until you forget you were pretending.
Really? Are u ignorant or just a retard? In every single arguement against religion there's always science mentioned and philosiphically(hope thats how u spell it) I can and will make the arguement that after thorough thinking and questioning that there is a God and that the reason people dont believe it is because there scared of the unseen(think of any circumstance) so they resort to believing that there's nothing there. Its like lieing so much you eventually believe in the lie. My parents werent that religious but we still had religion in our lives and i became religious myself and it saved me from what i could have become.
Scared of the unseen? That doesn't even make sense. Plenty of people who believe in god are in fear of him anyways.
But yeah, keep pretending you're so fucking brave for believing that when you die you'll get to live in a giant sunny place for the rest of your life. I'll keep believing that there's nothing when I die. Absolutely nothing. I'll just stop existing. That's truly terrifying. On a natural level. If you weren't taught to believe in a god by your parents.. well, normally I'd say you'd never believe in a god. But you're so fucking dumb you might have made up your own sky fairy anyways. Enjoy your mouthbreathing, mountain dew drinking, self righteous, fucking backwards lifestyle.
I'm sorry. I can't take anyone who can't take the time to spell out "you" seriously.
I hate to say it, because it's probably the most loathed "comment" in all of reddit, but..
This. This an insane amount.
"U" is usually when I subconsciously and semi-consciously decide that "I'm not going to listen to this guy".
It takes not even half a second longer to put the "y" and the "o" on there. There is no excuse.
Im on my phone
Calm down? They're taking it easy on you. I didn't even notice the "u" because I was so distracted by your inability to spell argument.
No, I won't. There's no excuse. Your time is not so valuable that you can be on reddit and write long comments, and yet not take the time to respectfully type out the words.
Cause theres so much respect on reddit
Seriously, you are experiencing a catastrophic failure of logic in your brain. Now I know why religious people like you exist. You spent a few minutes thinking about life and too the easy answer. God just made us right up, didn't he? Oh man, he's just so great.
That's not really how theories work. (not any that would be used in that kind of case, anyway) Generally, someone doesn't just say "This happens because I say so". There's a basis behind theories. They aren't just made up.
Yeah but a theory isnt a fact
Try using a theory in a essay that convinces people to take their opinion(forgot the name of those type of essays).
Gravity is a theory.
You don't know the meaning of a scientific theory do you?
What is the definition of a scientific theory to you?
>A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a body of knowledge that has been repeatedly confirmed
basically something that accurately explains and predicts a natural phenomenon. Gravity, evolution, and string theory are all theories. Persuasive essays often use theories to back up their claims.
A persuasive essay? If you wrote one of those on the Theory of Gravity I think I'd be pretty convinced.
Depends on what you mean by 'theory' - for example, gravity and evolution are theories.
I made it this far before I realized you were trolling. Fucking good job. A+++ would fall for it again.
