He's right. If he's banned of saying a word for being white, that's like those people who believe you can't be racist if you're black.
Now, if it's smart or nice to say something knowing someone will be bothered for any reason, that's another matter.
But he's still right.
It not a ban so much as "saying this is really not a good idea and will cause people to lose respect for you".
I agree, but that's pretty much a ban, a social ban. Based on a total misconception, or bastardization of racial issues aka leftism gone wild. With a spike of puritanism, "the N word". You guys must have a full alphabet of words you mustn't pronounce.
Then again, is not useful to criticize the game but to play it well, I admit.
I have a brit friend on FB who repeats every now and then get the water nigga! from the video. I find it amusing.
One thing I like about Spainistan, we're bold out loud in almost any context.
Is it really all that difficult to refrain from using a word? I can't think a scenario where it's necessary. I cringe so hard anytime I hear someone say it in public.
Maybe a Manchurian candidate situation where your trying to stop the sleeper agent from killing the president....
I don't think you understand what its like to be walking minding your own business going to a comic store and hearing "hey nigger, where you going?" and having a panic attack trying to find exit points, because you don't want your familiy to have to find out you got the shit kicked out of you for being black. This is political correctness, this is a history of bad, terrible shit happening. This is cool, this isn't edgy, this isn't funny. This is real hardcore serious. Not taking it serious means that people understand you're not actual self aware enough to understand what it means and as such find no respect for you.
Woah, mate, there, there. Nigger jumped out of the dictionary and killed my mother and my dog.
It's baloney. Banning the word won't save you from being mugged in a racist neighborhood.
Get over yourself. Collectively, for real.
I feel like you're not understanding social cues that causing reactions and disrespecting people make you not respectable
There is no point in engaging with racists.
While that's true, he's super fucking edgy and we're just not on his level. A shame, really.
No one has disrespected anyone so far, but feel free to keep victimizing yourself.
I sure brought upon myself walking to go play Magic The Gathering
Today, we are all N-words.
Nerf-herders?
>Banning the word won't save you from being mugged in a racist neighborhood.
No. But making it clear that referring to black people as others with derogatory language is bad makes it clear they also shouldn't be treated as others.
I love it when people claim that small bits of human decency won't fix all our problems therefore they aren't worth it.
>Get over yourself. Collectively, for real.
Apparently wanting to treat minorities with respect is...self importance?
Social bans aren't even remotely similar to legal bans. You need to get over yourself son.
> I love it when people claim that small bits of human decency won't fix all our problems therefore they aren't worth it.
No one said this much either, but again, keep feeling superbad about this.
I admitted that saying it will still bother people. I just argued that the tought process behind it is wrong and leads to wrong places. Like not even being able to spell words down to talk about them.
Your reactions in this thread are the sole reason this sub exists. And also the reason social warriors are hard to take seriously, I must add.
>Like not even being able to spell words down to talk about them.
What exactly do you think a social ban is? You can talk about slurs. We're talking about them now. The social ban is just that I won't be friends with you if you use them casually.
The reason it's so hard to take people like you seriously is because when people say they don't approve of something you immediately jump to this Orwellian ban and assume there's no more discussion ever and that everyone is over reacting.
> The social ban is just that I won't be friends with you if you use them casually.
That's not a social ban, that regular business. Social ban is going bananas over petty discussion and jumping to hyperbolic scenarios. As I said, if you're going to be jumped, whatever they say is irrelevant.
Say a word or don't say it, coudln't care less, but someone telling someone he can't say a word for being white or else he'll be racist blows the irony meter.
You agree, or you don't. Still can't care.
>Social ban is going bananas over petty discussion and jumping to hyperbolic scenarios.
Well if that's what you think a social ban is then no wonder you have trouble taking anyone seriously. What everyone else just thinks is "not wanting to be around" you think is literally throwing a tantrum.

No but cop who killed my grandfather did.
Here's my take on it. It's a fairly unique word in the English language in that it is so profoundly tied to ugliness of our (I'm American) past as well as our ongoing racial problems. It is bound to slavery, state sponsored racial terrorism, and ongoing domination of blacks by whites.
When I, as a white man, say that word, I invoke the entirety of that painful past as well as the failings of the present. It does not matter what my intent is, nor does the context matter- the second the word crosses my lips I have provided a stark reminder of centuries of brutal, systematic suppression of blacks most basic rights as human beings.
And this is why I shouldn't say it- not because I'm "not allowed to say it," not because "only white people can be racist," not because of any nonsense such as white guilt. The reason is simple: because of history, it really is different when a white person says it than when a black person says it. At least that's how I see it.

We Americans also consider the word "cunt" to be inappropriate.

Alphabets traditionally contain letters.
you have every right to say whatever you want, but everyone else has rights to not listen to you, to form the opinion of, "you are a racist shitbag"; and to not tolerate you in their social circles. This is essentially a social ban, and there's nothing wrong with it.
Why should we be forced to accept racist shitbags in our community?
What the hell is spainistan? Do you know what context it m8?
>I agree, but that's pretty much a ban, a social ban.
There's a lot of things that are socially banned.
>With a spike of puritanism, "the N word". You guys must have a full alphabet of words you mustn't pronounce.
Some words are considered impolite.

What? No it's not.
You seriously believe this is an issue of equality?
hmmmm
