If you kill a thousand men and animals, meh whatever it's just a game. But if you can kill even a single woman you're a misogynist who gets sexual gratification from violence against women.

I don't think these people understand exactly what equality is or how it works.

I've been playing GTA V since it was released on 360, I can't remember ever visiting a hooker or killing one. I'm just not interested in doing so. I have however killed thousands of cops, and hundreds of NPCs.

Interesting side note. In the main campaign only 2 women actually die. One of which dies by accident, the other is optional.

The biggest issue with GTA from a feminist point of view should be the lack of representation of women in main characters, the violence against NPCs is pretty much even, I've run over just as many women as men. Focusing on violence against women in this instance seems silly. There are bigger issues in the series and video games in general, and GTA is self-aware enough that there's even an ad in the game satirizing their own series and the juvenile mindset of the people who take it seriously.

The biggest issue is that I can't pick up male hookers, have sex with them and then stab them repeatedly, stealing back the money I just paid them. Only female sex workers can be brutally murdered, is that it? Misandry.

Where's all the feminists on that issue, I ask you.

I agree, lack of gigolos is the biggest issue with GTA.

I'm kind of surprised they didn't put in a male strip club.

Also the incredible number of phallic imagery inserted in the scenery should tip players off that the game ain't completely serious.

> only 2 women actually die

Yeah, because there's pretty much no female characters. Which is its own bowl of popcorn, but also makes the whole "killing hookers" bit even more problematic.

GTA does suck with having decent female characters but I don't think killing hookers is that big of a deal compared to anything else in game, you can kill cops, shoot down passenger jets, go on mass shooting sprees and much more. It's just GTA and it's fun.

I think it's a vulnerability thing. Cops, they're basically dicks, pedestrians, probably deserved it, but when you have sex with a prostitute I think that's when it gets disturbing, as you can tell their character.

How can you tell their character? The only difference between them and all the other pedestrians is that they will get in your car and make noises/have weird GTA sex for money.

No more than any other corpse.

It pales in comparison to the things EVE players do to corpses in the privacy of their Captains Quarters.

Which is essentially nothing? Last I checked you are alone in the CQ.

What goes on in the CQ is nobody's business but the owners. And maybe the corpse owners if they're wet blankets like OP about desecration.

The point is, its a goddamn video game.

What are you talking about? The game doesn't allow you to access a corpse in your CQ.

That's your concern? Not why I'm defending necrophilia and desecration of corpses?

Because that's what you were whining about earlier.

People can roleplay their necrophilia all they want, but they can't do it in EVE. There is no one else in your CQ.

You obviously don't play EVE.

I do play EVE, but last I checked this wasn't a feature. I know you can carry them around in your cargo, but not in the actual CQ that you walk around in.

Why is having the option to commit acts of graphically simulated violence against women so important to them?

Because it would be ridiculous to only have men in a open world city ?

i honestly don't understand what some people want in this thread. you want more women in a game that makes you a criminal. but you don't want them to be shot at/attacked? do they not know the most fun in GTA is killing someone and then fleeing the cops? i honestly don't care if they are women or men. i shoot both and then run them over while trying to flee.

It's people who can't grasp the concept that what occurs in a video game has little to no bearing on how that person behaves in real life. In video games, there are no consequences or repercussions. You aren't actually causing another living thing any sort of pain.

People have been trying to blame video games for violence since Doom. I don't think they can comprehend the idea that some people are just fucked up, whether they play violent video games or not.

I don't think it's killing women that's the issue, it's killing innocent people. Some of whom happen to be women. Some of whom happen to be sex workers.

People see that as simulating acts of sexual violence, and I can understand why. I don't agree with them, but I understand

The petition that got it removed actually was about sexual violence against women, exclusively, IIRC. Honestly it was a short-sighted and probably disingenuous petition; GTAV is far more reprehensible than just the way it treats women. And it does scream "won't somebody PUHLEASE think of the CHILDREN" (except for parents, of course, because that would require effort on their part) when it's not even a game aimed at or legally sold to children. Nonetheless, Target - as a corporation, whether public or private - gets to decide what is best for their company by their own standards. Isn't that the "libertarian ideal"?

I am loving this decision by if only because, just like every Anita Sarkeesian video, it really brings out the lowest common denominator of gamers. They talk about Sarkeesian playing victim by pointing out instances of sexism in games, but they act like they're being oppressed when one store decides not to carry one game, and then they try to spin it like the portrayal of women in GTAV isn't that bad because the men have it so much worse. Because social vacuum and all that.

That whole post is Why I Don't Call Myself a Gamer.txt summed up. I don't want to associate with the juvenile, glass-skin mentality of the gamer collective.
